Books to Grozny

Grozny lacks up-to-date learning material

Chechen youth lacks expertise to contribute to rebuilding their destroyed home country. During the Chechen wars (1994 – 1996 and 1999 – 2008) huge parts of the stock of literature of Grozny’s three public universities have been destroyed by acts of war and fires. Most of the available equipment is outdated.

The project “Books to Grozny” aims to improve these conditions.

The idea behind “Books to Grozny”

Our project will provide Grozny’s universities’ libraries with up-to-date literature for different faculties. From the beginning Chechen students and faculty members will be involved in our project. People involved decide on the range of books to be ordered. The first delivery of books is scheduled for Spring 2012.

The project “Books to Grozny” will pave the way for a better access to a more defined education which cannot be provided by the government in these times of political and economical hardship. In upgrading their knowledge, both students and faculty members will be benefiting from “Books to Grozny”.

New perspectives for the young generation

By supplying libraries with up-to-date literature ESF – Studieren ohne Grenzen e.V. wants to support Chechen youth to contribute to the rebuilding of the war-torn society.

By improving Chechnya’s educational infrastructure the scope of young people on site will be broadened, creating a basis for social, economical and political participation.

  • Which titles are needed most;
  • how many books are needed for each suggested title;
  • in which language(s) a book shall be published and
  • whether you need literature on a specific research topic or for a particular department in general.

Please use our online poll by following the links below to make your title suggestions, provide us with the desired information and give us feedback on the project.

Directory of donated books

We will seek to gather the books requested via donations from Germany, Europe and the United States. In this regard please note: Unfortunately it will be very difficult for us to collect books published in Russian language.
Please do not hesitate to spread word about this survey among your academic friends and colleagues. The more people know about this project, the more wishes on required books we can try to fulfill.
