The scholarship program
The selection process
Detailed planning makes the stays possible.
The implementation of the project requires a thoroughly planned selection process which is supposed to ensure that the chosen scholars are able to cope with the demands of an extended study program in a foreign country. Therefore, the stay itself must be planned carefully and intense mentoring for the scholars ensured.
Cooperation with local constitutions
The pre-selection is managed by our correspondent in Chechnya in cooperation with local professors and NGOs. They place a special importance on inspecting the environment the applicants live in.
The final selection is done by our selection committees in Konstanz and Tübingen. In this final step, we consult with the German universities in order to guarantee the realisation of the study proposals. In the future, we also plan to integrate independent experts in the selection committee.
Important factors on which the selection is based
The vita, motivation and especially the quality of the proposed project with which the applicant plans to support the rebuilding of Chechnya are decisive factors in the selection process. Important criteria for the project are its usefulness and feasibility. Also, the actual necessity of being part of our program in order to be able to implement the project is taken into account.
The immigration process requires planning
To be able to guarantee a visa to our scholarship holders, we need to undertake a pre-enrolment of the Chechen students at the respective universities. Furthermore, we have to provide accommodations, ensure all necessary insurances and attest for the requisite assets of 7.020 Euro per student/year. We appreciate the support of the diverse universities in helping us make all of this possible.
The students’ stay
Support in all situations
During their stay in Germany, the scholars receive extensive mentoring. We support them in their German language acquisition, in the integration process, in their studies and in the preparation of their projects. Additionally, we try to enhance the intercultural exchange.
No studies without a language test
Through the help of a 6-month intensive language course, the scholars are expected to acquire the basic knowledge of German required for the enrolment at the universities. Furthermore, we search for language partners who assist the scholars in improving their language skills after their studies have begun.
Integration as the most important experience
In order to make integration easier for the Chechen students, we provide them with all administrative requirements and help them to acclimatise as soon as possible in order to enjoy everyday life at German universities. All scholars are counseled by a team of mentors, who are constantly available no matter what the students might need help with.
The realisation of the projects requires practical experience
We organise professional support for the elaboration of the proposed projects. Among other things this includes internship placements during semester breaks in order for our scholars to gain some practical experience.
Local society can also profit
Our scholars can become members of local associations and clubs, thereby intensifying intercultural exchange, e.g. by taking part in events targeted at raising society’s awareness.
In addition, we organize joint events for scholars and association members. By doing so, we strive for an active exchange concerning the history, culture and society of the different backgrounds.
