Mweso Scholarship Program

Background

To rebuild the eastern part of the Democratic Republi of the Congo, destroyed by the war, there is a strong need for well-educated farmers to fight against poverty and starvation in this region. But most of the young people in northern Kivu cannot afford the expenses for higher education. Therefor Studieren Ohne Grenzen e.V. provides scholarships to promising young people which cover the tuition fees.

Our approach

It is our aim, to offer new perspectives to motivated young people in a region where any kind of education was harmed by long-lasting wars during the last decades. Studieren Ohne Grenzen e.V. offers scholarships to young, social committed people from DR Congo willing to put strong efforts in agricultural studies. They are thought to build the basis for the agricultural development in their immediate environment. Successfully establishing an agricultural project and passing their expertise to those around them, we are hoping for a multiplier effect.

Our program offers scholarships lasting three years to cover a full program of higher education. The most important aspect of our program is to assure the proliferation of the gained knowledge from our students to many others. Therefore the main criterion for the assessment of the candidates is the proposal of a project they want to realize after their studies. Furthermore we intend to support the gender equality by ensuring a men to women ration of 40 to 60 percent. The scholarships of 180€ cover the tuition fees, learning material and examination fees.

Our partners

To realize the program we can reckon on the cooperation with the local NGO Comité des  Agriculteurs pour le Développement Participatif (CADEP), who are guiding our scholarship holders in Mweso. CADEP takes a stand for a sustainable development in the region of northern Kivu, supporting local farmers with technical or research consulting as well as with educational offerings. In 2008 CADEP facilitated the reopening of the Institut Superieure d’Etudes Agronomiques in Mweso, now being the home institute of our students.

Become a partner for selected students in DR Congo. With some 15€ per month you can fund the complete studies of a Congolese student. The expenditures consist of the direct tuition and examination fees and a subsidy for learning materials. You can cancel the contract at any time.

Our weekly meeting is always open for the interested ones among you. We are grateful for input of new ideas as well as for critical feedback.
